PRIDE AND SHAME
The challenge behind this project was to find a way to express opposing concepts, mine of which was pride and shame. Conceptually, the piece was divided into three sections - two pages in each. The first is my abstract representation using hand-drawn shapes and lines, with the first page representing pride and the second shame. Pride is expressed through curvier lines, rounder forms and brighter colours. It then leads into the second page which expresses shame using broken lines, crumpled-like forms and darker colours. The second section uses direct representations to express pride and shame, in which I used more obvious imagery such as the lions head and a wilted flower. The third section was open to any concept - so I used imagery of balloons. Inflated balloons were used to express pride, while deflated balloons used for shame.
